The unintended expat blogger behind QuietBrookLamp

Hello, I'm Sofia
I am a project manager, a parent, and an expat based in Madrid, Spain.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Spain wasn’t part of the master plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial weeks were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Routine tasks seemed tougher than they should be.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock and uncertainty were real, and much learning happened on the job. Yet over time, routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt steady.
Why I Built QuietBrookLamp
Online resources were mostly high-level corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a genuine, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that void with actionable guidance drawn from real life in Spain.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Real-world insights from living in Spain
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site isn't:
- A government tourism authority resource
- A paid-review platform
- An ordinary travel blog
What\u2019s Next on the Horizon
Our stay in Spain continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sofia
